Birthday time

I can't believe how fast time goes by.  Gracie turned 7 the other day and had her party last weekend at the cinema where we all enjoyed Yogi!  I must add that she had her ears pierced for her birthday and they look lovely - although both Gracie and I nearly passed out when they did the piercing!

She also came home with $15 for winning the Frost fest coloring in competition!  Well done Gracie.  I wish some of her winning luck would rub off on me, still no luck on the lottery.

A snow day

We woke up this morning to alot of snow and visibility was very bad so no school for the girls and no work for Mick either.  It isn't particularly cold (about -22 with the wind chill) but we sure have a huge amount of snow and its still snowing!  Everything is so efficient here that things will probably be back to normal tomorrow and it does look so very pretty.

One big adventure

Well we really are living the "great Canadian adventure".  It was around -26 today.  We dripped the kitchen tap last night so that the water pipe wouldn't freeze.  The water seemed to be running fine so we turned the drip off and went out for a couple of hours.  When we returned we found that we only had a tiny trickle of water and then it stopped.  We called the caretaker who came over and tried to sort our frozen pipe out but it is still frozen.  Our bottled water supplies are running low with drinking, cooking and washing ourselves so Mick and I have resorted to thawing the snow out so we can flush the toilets.  The microwave and cooker have never seen so much action.  We are still smiling and we did chose to live out in the country.....

This evenings adventure has been almost as funny as our last night in our little cottage at the end of October.  One of the children (mentioning no names) filled the toilet up so much and then flushed it.  The poor toilet was unable to cope and overflowed!  Mick had to crawl round on his hands and knees moping the floor with a towel - I made sure it was his (he he he).

Our first winter here

Winter is definitely upon us.  It was -30 here yesterday!  We have had several inches of snow in the last week and everything looks so pretty covered with the white blanket.

We are all enjoying the snow but I am sure we will all be glad to see the back of it when Spring arrives.  Although it is cold and wintry we also get so much sunshine and that makes it all worth it - don't miss the soggy damp dreary days one bit.

The children had to have an indoor recess yesterday morning at school but they were allowed to play outside in the afternoon.  I think the rule is if it gets colder than -20 they have to stay in!

I am cast and crutch free and it is great to be able to get back to normal slowly.

The ice skates

The children experienced ice skating for the first time on Monday and even Mick skated for the first time in about 20 years!  The sun was shining and it was a beautiful day!

This is what the lake looks like now - it is hard to believe it was just water a few weeks ago!

Merry Christmas!

I can't believe it is Christmas eve today!  I hope Santa remembers where we are living now as there are two very excited little girls hoping he comes to drop some gifts in here.  Merry Christmas everyone!

The children performed in the school concert and it was fantastic.  French and English Christmas songs were performed and it was lovely - well done everyone!

Mick has been clearing the snow off the lake ready for the ice skating - how exciting!

An award

We were invited to the school assembly on Friday afternoon and it was well worth the trip.  Mya was presented with an award by the principal.  The certificate was to recognize outstanding character.  We are all very proud of you - well done Mya!
